I’m James Grant, and I work at Humboldt Financial, where I support advisors in creating financial strategies for clients and ensuring accounts are well managed. I studied Economics and Politics at the University of Manchester, and I’ve also gained start-up experience that’s shaped my practical and entrepreneurial approach to problem-solving. I’ve always had a strong passion for investing and enjoy helping clients make confident, informed decisions about their financial future.

Outside of work, I’m passionate about tennis and golf. I also value spending time with friends and family and enjoy exploring new opportunities and experiences.

What inspired you to get into the financial advice industry?

I have always had a strong interest in finance and a desire to help people make confident, informed decisions. Early on, I saw how overwhelming money management can be, especially when life becomes complex. I was inspired to become a financial adviser so I could guide people through those moments, help them feel in control of their financial future, and show them that building wealth does not have to be intimidating.

What’s your favourite part of working with clients?

It is incredibly rewarding to see a client go from feeling uncertain or anxious about their finances to feeling empowered and optimistic. I enjoy building long-term relationships and being there as their lives evolve, whether it is buying a home, starting a business, retiring, or navigating unexpected changes. Every client’s story is different, and it is a privilege to be part of that journey.

Is there a unique approach or perspective that sets you apart?

I take a highly personalised, education-first approach. I do not believe in one size fits all strategies. What works for one person may not work for another. I make it a priority to understand each client’s values, goals, and lifestyle so I can design a plan that truly reflects what matters most to them. My background includes startup experience, which has given me a deep understanding of entrepreneurship, innovation, and the unique financial challenges business owners face. It has shaped the way I think about risk, growth, and long-term planning. I also focus on clear, ongoing communication so clients always feel informed and confident in the decisions they are making.
